Penrith Music Club’s opening concert of 2026 will be given by the Quatuor Tchalik, winners of the string quartet section of the International Mozart Competition in Salzburg in 2018.
Based in France and with a Franco-Ukrainian background, the quartet is unique in consisting of four brothers and sisters, Gabriel, Louise, Sarah and Marc, and in playing on custom- designed instruments by Philip Mitéran, which gives them a very personal sound identity.
In the decade since their formation the Quatuor Tchalik has gained an international reputation for its performances of Mozart quartets and for its championship of the works of lesser composers such as the early 20th century French composer Reynaldo Hahn, whose Quartet no,1 will feature in the concert,
The concert opens with Mozart’s Quartet in B flat major, K.589, written in 1790, just a year before his death, It ends with Schubert’s Death and the Maiden Quartet in D minor, one of his greatest and most profound chamber music works, its slow movement a poignant set of variations on his song of that name. The concert takes place in Penrith Methodist church on Monday January 12th at 7.30 pm.
