Two of the greatest English pianists of our time, Peter Donohoe and Martin Roscoe, will be combining to give a recital on two pianos in the opening concert of Penrith Music Club’s new season. In an event thought to be unique in the 81year history of the Music Club, these two distinguished pianists will be playing a programme of music by Mozart, Saint-Saëns, Debussy and Rachmaninov, featuring the Music Club’s own Steinway grand piano and a grand piano loaned by the Club’s secretary, Noriko Moffat.

Peter Donohoe was born in Manchester and initially trained as a timpanist before deciding to put all his energies into the piano. In 1982 he won the Joint Silver Medal at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and has since pursued a highly-successful career as both pianist and conductor, including a memorable recital for the Music Club in Penrith’s St. Andrew’s Church.

Martin Roscoe was born in Cheshire and has been a frequent visitor to the Music Club as both solo pianist and chamber musician. He has a long-standing association with Peter Donohoe and has achieved international recognition as one of the outstanding pianists of the present age. Now based in the Lake District, he pursues an active career in music, both as pianist and director of several music festivals.

The concert will take place in Penrith Methodist Church on Monday September 23rd at 7.30 pm and marks the start of an exciting new season for the Music Club.
